I've enjoyed the interesting comments in this thread thusfar. Carmels comment about reality not being as bleak as most people think got me thinking about the difference between reality and truth, and how they both relate to facts.

Two people with the exact circumstances may view their own realities very differently. One's cup is half empty, and the other one's cup is half full. How they would each describe their own circumstance would be the "truth", and although the more tangible elements (facts) are common to both peoples' circumstance, their "realities" are different and thus so is their "truth".

jehovah's witnesses say noah's flood happened c.2000bc.. interestingly a possible problem arises with the origins of the indo-european languagues b/c, which linguists have calcaluated(sp?

)2 have originated about 8,900 years ago using a cognate database,hittite being near the root of the ie family followed by tocharian ,greek and armenian.. there4 the ie languagues spread with agriculture in2 europe arriving in scotland 5500 years ago.. question?.

how will they explain this?

in it's quest to be the spotless, shining beacon for all the world to see, the wt's continuing policies regarding sexual/child abuse have produced the opposite effect.

common sense would tell you that if a religious organization had a policy of immediately requesting police to investigate when a victim comes forth with an accusation, outsiders could see that this kind of behaviour is not tolerated in the least.

people would welcome that kind of transparancy.. actually, the wt sealed it's fate when it decided it could declare itself the only religious organization without blemish, because of course, it is the one true religion.

Actually, the WT sealed it's fate when it decided it could declare itself the only religious organization without blemish, because of course, IT is the ONE TRUE RELIGION. And how do we know this is the ONE TRUE RELIGION? Because it is without BLEMISH! Circular reasoning at it's finest! And it has worked for them quite well for a long time - as long as the masses never hear about $hit happening.

But the Society has painted itself into a corner because with mass media now and especially the net, the org can no longer keep this stuff under the carpet. Major blemishes are now exposed for the whole world to see.

Funny how lofty ambitions can kill you...

Perhaps, but I think the concept of "god(s)" more likely started as a result of natural disasters such as drought, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. Then some a$$hole figured maybe these things were a result of human behaviour, started coming up with rules and promptly discovered CONTROL . The rest is history.

Why does the Society "go beyond what is written" re blood?

this may sound somewhat cynical, but i think the society has held to it's position on blood in order to create a never-ending supply of martyrs.

martyrs are needed for the society to hold up as shining examples of faith and devotion.

this sense of self-sacrifice helps them tow the line with regards to all of their insane rules.. wg

Haughtiness And The Witnesses

i find that the witnesses are very "haughty".

haughty is described in the oxford dictionary as "proud of oneself and looking down on others"; how well this describes the wtbts.. how many people were very proud of having "the troof"?

how many people felt that they were special.

That is all part of the indoctrination. Non JW, or "worldly" people are viewed as bad association. I agree with another responce that JW are just as hypocritical as the Scribes and Pharisees.
